GHRP-6 Peptide Overview
The GHRP-6 peptide, also written GHRP 6, is a synthetic hexapeptide and one of the earliest extensively characterized members of the growth hormone-releasing peptide family. Its sequence incorporates modified amino acids that allow it to interact with the growth hormone secretagogue receptor, or GHS-R.
Laboratory research involving GHRP-6 has contributed substantially to the characterization of secretagogue receptor biology, pituitary signaling, hypothalamic regulation, and the interaction between synthetic secretagogues and endogenous regulatory pathways.
Related growth hormone secretagogue research peptides in the Medicina Labs catalog include GHRP-2 and Ipamorelin.
History
Research leading to GHRP-6 began with investigations by Cyril Bowers and colleagues into small synthetic peptides capable of selectively activating endocrine signaling.
In 1984, Bowers and colleagues reported a synthetic hexapeptide, His-D-Trp-Ala-Trp-D-Phe-Lys-NH2, capable of producing a strong and selective response in experimental growth-hormone models. This peptide became known as GHRP-6 and helped establish the growth hormone secretagogue class.
Subsequent work ultimately contributed to identification and characterization of the GHS-R pathway and its endogenous ligand, ghrelin.

Research Findings
GHRP-6 has been studied extensively in endocrine and receptor-signaling models. Experimental findings have examined its interaction with GHS-R, endogenous GHRH signaling, pituitary response, and broader hypothalamic-pituitary communication.
Key Areas of Research:
- Receptor: GHS-R binding and activation
- Endocrine: Secretagogue signaling and pathway response
- Pituitary: Somatotroph activity and signaling dynamics
- Hypothalamic: Interaction with endogenous GHRH pathways
Together, this body of research has made GHRP-6 an important reference peptide for studying growth hormone secretagogue biology. Experiments have also demonstrated that endogenous GHRH signaling contributes substantially to the response produced by GHRP-6, illustrating the interaction between multiple endocrine regulatory pathways.
